A Behind-the-Scenes look at Disney World's Decorations

If anybody is interested about how Disney is transformed with the festive decor there is a cool and semisecret activity for you! During the Christmas season only, two special tours are held to take a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of Disney's holiday decorations. The groups also get to meet Disney's "elves" that create the lights and decorations for the parks. Pocahontas is a classic Disney film that I enjoyed watching, and I felt like there were also many controversial aspects that I could observe. For one thing, I liked the fact that Pocahontas is a Native American woman whose goal is to follow her own path. At least for women, I believe this is a step in the right direction. Another aspect that I thought was interesting about the film were the secondary characters of Meeko and Flit. I always connect more with the sidekick characters because they are usually funny, loving and focused on helping the main character. Review on Henry A. Giroux's "The Disneyfication of Children's Culture"

The Disneyfication of Children's Culture, by Henry A. Giroux is an article that argues how Disney's facade of "innocence and moral virtue" has underlying themes that can be harmful to the education of adolescent minds. Giroux focuses on the fact that Disney is an economic powerhouse that is trying to make their money off of movies that are most of the time not politically, morally or historically correct. Disney is such an influential and readily available source that children are exposed to it everyday, yet their most famous movies (since 1989) include stereotypical ideologies of race, gender and conservative world views. Giroux goes on to suggest how teachers, cultural workers and parents can change the course of Disney pedagogy, and hopefully help children come to the realization that the happy go-lucky animations aren't always correct. Coming-of-age Disney Channel Show

Disney is releasing its second season of the popular children's show "Andi Mack," but this time there is an important message. One of the characters, Cyrus Goodman, is a young boy comes to realize that he is gay and is in the process of coming out to his friends (the other main characters of the show). The Disney Channel series is meant to connect with all children and many of them seem to struggle with accepting themselves. Disney is hoping to "send a powerful message of inclusion and respect for humanity." The show seems to deal with serious and relevant topics, but is made sure to be appropriate for all ages.
